Situated in the Swiss Alps, this private residence renovation combines preserved masonry with advanced timber engineering, utilizing 3D laser scanning point-cloud data to overcome non-standard existing geometries and frame panoramic mountain views.
Main Part Design OĆ was responsible for:
Development of the detailed structural BIM model based on 3D laser scanning point clouds.
Comprehensive structural calculations, evaluating overall 3D building stiffness, Alpine snow/wind loads, and custom timber-to-steel-to-masonry connection nodes.
Complete Prefab manufacturing package: assembly drawings, single-part shop drawings, and element production specifications.
Material bills of quantities and automated shipping/assembly lists.
Multi-disciplinary BIM coordination (IFC) with the partner engineering team from Germany and active collaboration with the client on-site.
Structural Overview
Prefabricated timber-frame exterior and interior wall panels manufactured off-site.
Hybrid base integrating preserved masonry sections, concrete ring beams, and a concrete ground floor executed by German partners.
Direct integration of 3D laser scanning point clouds into BIM to eliminate interface errors.
Diaphragm action across roof and ceiling planes transferring lateral wind and seismic loads to shear walls.
Glulam stiffening frames with concealed steel plates, dowels, and bolts surrounding full-height panoramic openings.
Wall anchorage using Rothoblaas hold-downs and heavy-duty chemical anchors tied directly to the concrete ring beams and foundation.
